Google has just made a major announcement! Eric Schmidt has been dropped as the CEO of Google. Schmidt has spent the last decade as Google’s CEO.
Co-founder Larry Page will move into the role as CEO, with Eric Schmidt taking the role as Executive Chairman and continuing to act as an advisor to Larry and Sergey from April 4 2011. Schmidt has said “As Executive Chairman, I will focus wherever I can add the greatest value: externally, on the deals, partnerships, customers and broader business relationships, government outreach and technology thought leadership that are increasingly important given Google’s global reach; and internally as an advisor to Larry and Sergey.”. The focus of these changes is to better serve the future of Google and its users and improve responsibility and accountability at the top of the company.
